What is the Copytracer system?

Legrand actively combats counterfeiting and this is the background to the introduction of the Copytracer system in 2011. This system enables the authenticity of a product to be verified thanks to a coded identification unique to each product, whereby all buyers are able to check the origin of a product via the www.legrand-copytracer.com website.

What guarantees do you offer on the origin of products sold online?

Despite the good commercial relationships that we may have with certain online merchants, we are unable to guarantee the total traceability of the logistics flow, and therefore that all the products sold online are goods issued by our own production sites. We advise that in the first instance you ask your reseller to engage its responsibility and to provide you with a guarantee of the origin of the products that it is selling.

Can I use a second-hand product in my installation?

It is important to remember that safety products such as an RCD or a circuit breaker are intended to protect goods and people from electrical risks. While their prices may be attractive, there is no way to guarantee the origin of a second-hand product. It is impossible to know whether a second-hand product, i.e. a product that may already have been used, has suffered irreversible damage. By installing it, you therefore risk endangering the installation in which it is to be used as well as the lives of the persons that use this installation. We advise you to use approved professional distributors through which we guarantee the quality and authenticity of our products.

Can I install a product purchased in another country in my country?

Each country has its own wiring practices, standards and approvals and there is a high risk that this device is not suited to the type of installation of the country in which it is intended to be used and could render this installation non-compliant or even dangerous (which could be taken into account by your insurance company in the event of an accident). In the specific case of Europe, the CE mark alone does not suffice as it does not guarantee that the product conforms to the regulations in force in the country in question. Generally speaking, the approval of the country in which the product is to be installed is required. This approval can be represented by an abbreviation (logo) such as NF for France, VDE for Germany, etc.

I have just purchased a Legrand device and the marking is not identical to the one that I already own: is it the same?

The different ranges of a given Legrand product family can each have their own visual identity and this may account for some differences. Legrand is also continuously working to improve the performance, quality, user-friendliness and design of its products. The appearance of products and their catalogue numbers may change over time and different generations of products may exist simultaneously on the market. The new ranges of products are generally compatible with the old ranges and can be used together in an installation in the event of an overhaul. If in doubt, do not hesitate to contact your distributors or Legrand customer service.

I have just purchased some Legrand products and none of them have a Copytracer number: are they originals?

Legrand actively combats counterfeiting and, since 2011, has put in place an innovative marking system on products, enabling all buyers of marked products to check their authenticity using the Legrand website www.legrand-copytracer.com The rolling out of this solution has required the adaptation of our production facilities and is being carried out gradually. The system was put in place in the first instance on safety products such as screw modular circuit breakers. The absence of a Copytracer number does not therefore mean that the product is not an original.

What is Legrand's policy in combatting counterfeiting?

Legrand actively combats counterfeiting in order to guarantee the safety of goods and persons using these products. This was the reason for introducing the Copytracer system in 2011. In addition to this marking, it must be noted that every year Legrand allocates significant resources to combatting counterfeiting, such as financing field operations in areas known to host this type of activity. Legrand is also an active member of certain federations or associations of manufacturers which contribute to making the market safer for users, that is to say for all of us. These include: - IGNES http://www.ignes.fr/ - BEAMA http://www.beama.org.uk/
